The month of April marks a very special time in Laos: Pi Mai, the Lao New Year, a celebration of renewal, sharing, and joy. On this occasion, the entire Mekong Elephant Park team wishes you a year filled with serenity, good health, and positive energy whether you are with family, friends, in the middle of water festivities… or simply enjoying a well-deserved break.

Born in 1954 in Borthan, in the province of Sayaboury, Mae Kham is the oldest elephant at Mekong Elephant Park. She arrived at the park in 2008, bearing the marks of a long history in the logging industry, where she worked for over forty years. The scars on her skull and torn ears bear witness to difficult years.

Arriving in July 2023, Mae Nin finally regained her family life after nearly fifteen years spent alone, far from her loved ones. She worked for a long time in the forestry industry, hauling timber alongside her half-sister Mae Nat, an inseparable duo whose bond remains very strong to this day.
