As we step into 2025, the team at Mekong Elephant Park would like to wish you a joyful and prosperous new year! Thank you for your continued support, which has made a world of difference to the elephants in our care. Let’s take a moment to reflect on recent milestones and exciting news to come.
Three Months to Give Dokéo
a Better Life 🐘

We are thrilled to share that Dokéo is adjusting remarkably well to his new life at the park! After months of hardship, Dokéo has found a temporary refuge with us, where he is finally able to experience freedom, good health, and the care he deserves.
Let us remind that just a few months ago, Dokéo’s life was marked by deprivation and hard labor, leaving him underweight and in poor condition. Since joining us, he has gained over 300 kilos and is beginning to thrive in a natural environment, walking freely and enjoying nature.
However, this is just the beginning of his journey. We currently have a lease contract for Dokéo until the end of March, giving us under three months to raise the funds needed for his permanent rescue.

Together, we can continue to change Dokéo’s life for the better. We are still in the process of collecting the necessary funds, and every donation counts.
Special Thanks to Our Supporters
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our visitors and supporters who have made a huge impact:
- Anna-Katri from Finland and Anna & Kevin from Germany for rallying their Instagram communities to support Dokéo.
- Pascal, Andre and Alon, Ann, Bernadette and Laurent, and Peter for their incredibly generous donations.
Your unwavering support brings us closer to securing a permanent home for Dokéo!
Support Our Elephants in 2025:
APEEL Subscription Renewal
2024 has been a successful year for the Mekong Elephant Park, and your support has played a key role in helping us continue our conservation work. Whether through donations or spreading the word about our efforts, your involvement has contributed to the well-being of elephants in our care and throughout Laos. APEEL (Association for the Protection of Elephants Ecosystem in Laos) directly supports the projects and initiatives at the Mekong Elephant Park, ensuring these efforts have a lasting impact.
Thank you to all who subscribed to APEEL in 2024. Your contributions have been instrumental in supporting the association’s ongoing projects. This year, we successfully raised funds for the temporary rental of Dokeo, and we are working toward making him a permanent member of our family. Your support enables us to help Dokeo and many other elephants live healthier lives.

Environmental protection continues to be a cornerstone of APEEL’s mission. At the Mekong Elephant Park, your support has helped extend our 30-hectare day fence and build a new night fence for the female elephants, providing them with a safer and more natural environment. Excitingly, a new species of animal was recently spotted within our conservation area—an encouraging sign of the positive impact we’re having on biodiversity.

With your help, the Mekong Elephant Park, through APEEL, aims to fund two rangers year-round to strengthen the protection of the park and its wildlife. Together, we can create lasting change for the elephants and the ecosystem they call home.
With just €12 a year—only €1 per month—you can join APEEL and become part of a family dedicated to ending the exploitation of elephants.
By joining, you’ll be at the heart of the action, and we will share our projects, progress, and challenges with you. 🐘
Together, we can create and realize a better future for elephants!
In 2023, APEEL saved Mae Nin, who is now a permanent part of the NGO. This is proof that together, we can achieve remarkable things.

APEEL’s Mission
APEEL is dedicated to creating conservation zones to protect biodiversity, combat deforestation, and end poaching. The NGO supports the reintegration of elephants into their natural habitats and are committed to replanting trees in protected areas, as well as organizing cleaning actions. APEEL also focuses on raising awareness about major ecological challenges in Laos and educating local schools, both in Laos and France.

By promoting local cultures and their ancestral knowledge of the forest and elephants, APEEL strives to build a sustainable future for both wildlife and people.
Why subscribe now?
It’s a decisive moment for the future: the number of elephants in Laos is rapidly decreasing, and the elephant is essential for the survival of many other species. APEEL does not receive government support; the association’s resources come primarily from member subscriptions, activities, and donations.
What does this mean for you?
Joining APEEL provides the opportunity to engage employees in impactful conservation initiatives, and visibility through APEEL’s communication channels and events.
For 2025, if you wish to renew your APEEL membership or start a new subscription, you can do so by following the link below.
And feel free to share this link to your friends, family and colleagues. An association’s membership numbers are the best proof of its vitality and credibility, particularly in the eyes of potential donators!
Looking Back at 2024
and Our Vision for 2025

In 2024, we successfully:
- Continued feeding our matriarch, Mae Kham, 80kg of fruits daily, while constructing her seasonal shelter.
- Expanded the protected areas and acquired essential maintenance equipment.
- Installed a 10-hectare night fence for the elephants’ safety.
- Invested $9,000 in purchasing and planting local trees within the protected area.
Looking ahead to 2025, we aim to:
- Build a 5-hectare day-use fence for our female elephants’ socialization.
- Maintain Mae Kham’s daily feeding schedule.
- Secure funding to make Dokeo a permanent resident.
- Continue reforestation with the Department of Forestry and Agriculture.
- Strengthen patrolling efforts to protect the reserve.

2024 was a year full of achievements, and we are proud of our team. Needless to say, we couldn’t have reached these milestones without the support of our dedicated community. Thank you for being an essential part of the Mekong Elephant Park family.
